My Possible Primary Sources

I found this poster of the movie "Fast Food Nation" very interesting. A baby is wearing the Stars and Stripes patterned diaper. This baby is stretching his hands to hamburgers. This poster is indicating that American people, since their babyhood, are exposed to fast food. I could see that Americans are closely related to fast food as seen in the poster. When I first came to America, every time I eat fast food, what I could hear from my friends was, “Lindsey, you’re Americanized!”

This painting, easily accessible on the Internet, was very interesting, but funny at the same time. The two people are fighting in a factory area. These two people are not ordinary. One on the left is Ronald, the mascot of McDonald’s; one on the right is Colonel Sanders, the founder and the mascot of KFC. The painter is representing competition between fast food chains by using their mascots.

If I were you, I will choose the first one to write about. I find that the two hamburgers on the top of the picture look like women's breast. This is a metaphor I think. It tells us that Americans love hamburgers so much, that hamburgers, to them, are as important as their mothers' milk in some way.

I agree with what Yingyu said. The shape of two burgers might be a metaphor to show American's addict to burgers or to a large extent, fast food. Actually, as the largest fast food nation, American is known for its burgers and fries. It may have its own way to make industry flourishing. Also, I noticed that there is a sentence between the baby and burgers," the truth is hard to swallow". This may put some industry secrets on the table. I am looking forward to reading your analysis in future. Good luck~~

I think that either source would work fine for this assignment, but I prefer the first one. In my opinion, it will give you more to analyse than the second one will, just because it has more in the way of meaningful details. Beyond noting that Ronald McDonald and the Colonel are fighting, there's not too much to say about the second one. By way of contrast, the poster for fast food nation will allow you to discuss the use of the baby, the star-spangled diaper, the hamburgers that look like breasts, the tag-line, etc etc. I would recommend you go for that one.

haha I think I really like the second picture. We are all very familiar with McDonald’s and KFC. They seemed to fight with each other. And the tussle looks like horrifying. It;s similar to the competition between these two fast food chains!
